How to Tell if a Trade Is Fair (Win, Fair, or Lose)
One of the most useful skills in Adopt Me is being able to look at a trade and quickly judge whether it’s good, even, or a rip-off. Get this right and you’ll steadily grow your collection. Get it wrong and you can lose a rare pet in seconds. This guide shows you exactly how to tell if a trade is fair.
The three trade outcomes
- Win (W): the side you’re receiving is worth more than the side you’re giving.
- Fair (F): both sides are roughly equal in total value.
- Lose (L): you’re giving away more value than you’re getting back.
The aim isn’t to “win” every single trade — that’s neither realistic nor necessary. The aim is to avoid unknowingly losing value and to make deals that move you toward the pets you actually want.
Step 1: Add up both sides
Fairness is about total value, not the number of pets. Four common pets can easily be worth less than one Legendary. Don’t be impressed just because someone offers you a big pile of pets — add up what each side is actually worth. The fastest way is our trade calculator: put your pets on one side, theirs on the other, and it instantly totals both and tells you the outcome.
Step 2: Account for variants and add-ons
A pet’s value changes a lot depending on its version, so check whether it’s regular, Neon, or Mega Neon, and whether it has Fly or Ride potions. A Mega Neon can be worth several times the regular version, and a Fly Ride (FR) pet is worth more than a “no potion” (NP) one. Scammers often rely on you not noticing that a pet is a plain version rather than the Neon or FR version you assumed.
Step 3: Factor in demand
Two pets can have similar listed values but very different demand. A high-demand pet is easier to trade away later, while a low-demand pet — even a valuable one — can be hard to move. If you’re choosing between two roughly equal offers, lean toward the pet that’s easier to trade on, unless you’re keeping it for good.
Step 4: Decide if a “loss” is actually worth it
Not every loss is bad. You might accept a slight loss when you’re combining several smaller pets into one rarer pet, finally getting a grail pet you’ve chased for a long time, or downsizing an inventory full of small pets into fewer, more valuable ones. The key word is knowingly. A loss you choose for a good reason is fine. A loss you didn’t notice is how people get scammed.
Quick mental checklist before you accept
- Did I add up both sides, not just count pets?
- Did I check the variant (Neon/Mega) and potions (Fly/Ride) of every pet?
- Does the calculator say Win or Fair — and if it says Lose, do I have a good reason?
- Did I re-check the window right before confirming, in case anything was swapped?
- Do I actually want these pets, or am I just trading for the sake of it?
If you can tick all five, you’re trading smart.
